Standard SMA male (SMA-M) plug connector
Reversed Polarity SMA Female (RP-SMA-F) ConnectorSMA (SubMiniature version A) connectors are coaxial RF connectors developed in the 1960's as a minimal connector interface for coaxial cable with a screw type coupling mechanism. The connector has a 50 £[ impedance. It offers excellent electrical performance from DC to 18 GHz. The SMA connector is frequently used in mass numbers in particle accelerators. The connector is used in conjunction with Heliax cable as a connector for X and Y in Particle beam diagnostics, after Quadrupole magnets. The AC feedback signal, X and Y are fed through four SMA connectors from the beam position monitor to the beam monitor instrumentation.

Reverse polarity SMA
Reverse polarity SMA (RP-SMA or RSMA) is proprietary variation of the SMA connector. Used widely by WiFi device manufacturers such as Linksys, Netgear, and D-Link, it is designed to be incompatible with standard SMA connectors to comply with U.S. FCC regulations which seek to prevent consumers from attaching non-standard aerials to wireless devices.
The male RP-SMA connector has the same external housing as a standard male SMA connector; however, the internal prong is replaced by a receptacle. The female RP-SMA connector has the same housing as a standard female SMA connector however the prong found on a male SMA connector is on the female RP-SMA connector.
SMB connector
SMB (SubMiniature version B) connectors are coaxial RF connectors developed in the 1960s. This version is smaller than SMA connectors.
They feature a snap-on coupling and are available either in 50 £[ or 75 £[ impedances. They offer excellent electrical performance from DC to 4 GHz.
They are available for two SMB cable sizes:
Cable 2.6/50+75 S (3 mm outer / 1.7 mm inner diameter) and
Cable 2/50 S (2.2 mm outer / 1 mm inner diameter)
SMC connector
SMC (SubMiniature version C) connectors are coaxial RF connectors developed in the 1960s. They use a 10-32 threaded interface (screw type) and are available in 50 £[ or 75 £[ impedances. They offer excellent electrical performance from DC to 10 GHz.

SMA Connector Series
SMA Connector Series SMA connectors are semi-precision, subminiature devices that provide repeatable electrical performance from DC to 12.4 GHz with flexible cable. Semi-rigid cabling extents the frequency range of the device to 18 GHz. These devices offer broadband performance with low reflection and constant 50 ohm impedance. These properties, along with minimum attenuation and low VSWR have made the SMA extremely popular in the microwave community.

The SMA design has been broadened to accommodate many interconnect requirements and is available in pressure crimp, clamp and solder terminal attachments. SMA design parameters have incorporated the considerations of balancing cost, size, weight and performance to yield the best value in your microwave system. Among typical applications are components such as dividers, mixers, amplifiers, trimmers and attenuators. SMA connectors are also used to provide interconnections from printed circuit board stripliness to coaxial cable.

For phase array radar, test equipment, ILS landing systems and other instrumentation using phase matching techniques, these SMA connectors for semi-rigid coaxial cables and the SMA Plug-to-Jack adapter offer a precise and simple means of phase adjustment for microwave devices. Built in accordance with MIL-C-39012 and CECC 22110/111, SMA connectors can be mated with all connectors that meet these spec mating diameters regardless of manufacturer.

SMA is available both in Standard and Reverse Polarity. Reverse polarity is a keying system accomplished with a reverse interface, and ensures that reverse polarity interface connectors do not mate with standard interface connectors. Amphenol accomplishes this by inserting female contacts into plugs and male contacts into jacks. Other manufacturers may use reverse threading to accomplish reverse polarity keying.
